This classic cocktail combines subtle creamy notes with the roasted depth of coffee, bringing an earthy, aromatic twist to every sip. Perfect for the colder months, but what happens when liquorice meets this beloved cocktail? Boldly cutting through the creamy coffee base, liquorice lends the drink an assertive finish that lingers on the palate.
The result is a darker cocktail that balances indulgence with a little edge, where sweetness, bitterness and savoury liquorice notes meet in a surprisingly harmonious combination.
Departing from the traditional White Russian, which pairs vodka, coffee liqueur and cream, this darker interpretation gives liquorice a starring role, making it a fitting serve for Halloween. The coffee provides depth, the oat milk rounds out the intensity of the sharper flavours, and the liquorice keeps every sip intriguing. For those who enjoy their coffee cocktails with a more complex flavour profile, the Dark White Russian makes a compelling alternative to the usual Espresso Martini.
